Water & Wastewater Program
Irrigation with treated sewage
Wastewater reuse takes advantage of today's wastewater treatment technology to safely utilize treated sewage effluent to irrigate landscaping, public recreation areas, and various crops. This reuse conserves the sources of water that can be used for potable purposes and generally reduces the human impact on the environment.
All wastewater reuse must permitted through the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality Water Quality Division. Permitting is necessary to insure the protection of human health and the environment from unnecessary adverse impacts. Chapter 21 of the Water Quality Division Rules and Regulations defines the permitting process for the reuse of wastewater.
Additional questions about wastewater reuse or requests for assistance with the permitting process should be directed to the appropriate district engineer for water and wastewater.
