Welcome
Welcome to Wyoming Water Quality Division's (WQD) public web site for the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Program. The NPDES program issues permits to all facilities where water is released or discharged to the environment. NPDES permits describe effluent limits and reporting requirements.
Due to extensive and rapid coal bed methane (CBM) development in Northeast
Wyoming and other areas of the State, requests for information regarding
the NPDES permitting process have increased greatly. In an attempt to
provide information to the public WQD has created this web site. The web
site is based on the NPDES database and provides 'real-time' access to
information contained in the database. Goals for the public web site
include:
1.
To enhance public involvement in NPDES permit
issuance by providing a quality data resource in a format where public can
easily query for permit information.
2.
To improve water quality in the State through increased public
awareness regarding permits issued and requirements of those permits.
3.
To improve water quality in the State through a more effective compliance system enlisting participation of an informed public. |
The permit search area of the database can be used to look up individual permits by
permit number, permit holder, and/or facility name. When searching
by permit number any part of the permit number can be entered and
all permits containing the search criteria will be returned. For
example, by entering the numbers 19 in the permit number
search box, the system will return WY000019,
WY000190, etc. When searching by company
or facility name enter the first part of the string and all matches
will be returned. Usually the first four or five letters of the
first word is sufficient to find a match. The longer the search
string the less chances of finding what you are looking for. The
system returns all permits with matching search criteria. Clicking
on a permit number will display all information about the permit.
|
Custom queries provide the ability
to look up information based on permit classifications and tracking
dates. Custom queries are executed by entering criteria in one or
both of the criteria fields and then pressing the 'Search' button.
The system returns a list of all permits, companies, or waters
matching the query criteria. Clicking on an item in the query
results will show additional information
about the permit.

Throughout the NPDES system, codes and
abbreviations are used to categorize and classify permits,
facilities, outfalls (waters), etc. The definitions area of the public site contains detailed descriptions of each code or abbreviation within a classification.
