Community Involvement

Community Advisory Group (CAG)

Starting in July of 2003 WDEQ held open houses and informational meetings to inform the public of the groundwater contamination problem from the former nuclear Missile Site on the Belvoir Ranch.  At these meetings the public was asked if they wanted to form a CAG to meet more frequently and regularly.  The purpose of a CAG is to provide a forum for community concerns and to provide input on cleanup actions and to assist the US Army Corps of Engineers in making better cleanup decisions.  Because of the need expressed in the meetings, WDEQ facilitated the formation of a Citizen’s Advisory Group in September of 2009.  A CAG is a group of volunteers who have committed to serve as community representatives closely following the activities at the site.  The first CAG meeting was held in January 2009 and the second in June 2010.

Formation of Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) anticipated

July 16, 2010

Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality requested that the US Army Corps of Engineers form a RAB to better inform the community about recent and up-coming events related to clean-up of the TCE contaminated groundwater on the Belvoir ranch.

What is a RAB?

A RAB is a more formal group than the existing Community Advisory Group.  The RAB has funding to provide regular presentations and trainings to RAB members.  The funding comes from the US Army Corps of Engineers.  The RAB is jointly run by a US ACE representative and a community co-chair.

What does formation of a RAB mean for the public?

RAB members will receive up to date Presentations from contractors, mailings providing up to the minute developments, and regular document summaries.  Meetings are open to the public.  A RAB typically meets 2 to 4 times a year.

If you are interested in serving on a RAB, fill out the form at the link listed below or contact Jane Francis ( 307 777-7092 or jfranc@wyo.gov) for more information.
