The federal Clean Water Act provides that the discharge of any pollutants from a point source into surface water of the United States must be regulated under the Wyoming Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (WYPDES) Program. Through this program, operators of a point source discharge are required to receive coverage under a WYPDES discharge permit. The permits contain limitations and conditions that will assure that the state's surface water quality standards are protected.
Before a WYPDES permit can be issued, the proposed permit must be published in a 30-day public notice. The public notice is a vehicle for informing all interested parties of the contents of a draft permit and other significant actions. The intent of the public notice is to provide an opportunity for the public to comment on the proposed permit.
If you are interested in receiving a copy of WYPDES public notices, you may submit a written request to Leah Krafft, Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality, Water Quality Division, 122 West 25th Street, Cheyenne, WY 82002. Current and recent WYPDES public notices can also be viewed on the DEQ/WQD Current Events Page.WYPDES Discharge Permitting:
