September 13, 2006 Update
Following the release of
air pollutants at the Crosby well site on August 11, the Air
Quality Division (AQD) instituted Volatile Organic Compound
(VOC) monitoring at several sites along the canyon and
monitored meteorological parameters at the well site. The
Division chose to sample by using SUMMA evacuated canisters
analyzed using EPA approved Methods (TO-15 modified for
additional compounds and TO-14A) for seventy-four (74) VOC
compounds. Five sites were sampled: inside the forest
boundary, at the well site, Line Creek, Forty-five Drive,
and Crossfire Drive. AQD collected 24-hour samples at
each site for five days beginning on Wednesday, August 16
and finishing on Monday, August 21.
Monitored results show low concentrations of VOCs at the
Crossfire Drive, 45 Drive and USFS Boundary site.
Concentrations were higher at the well site and Line Creek
locations however, even the well site concentrations were
not abnormally elevated. The AQD and our monitoring
contractor, Air Resource Specialists, are currently
developing a summary report of the results that will be
posted on the website. This report will summarize
results graphically as well as supplying monitored air
concentrations. Since there are not Ambient Air
Quality Standards for VOCs, the report will also include
reference values for comparison to monitored concentrations.
